Jupiter's magnetospheric activity


Back-projection of a movie of Jupiter's UV aurora onto the magnetic equatorial plane. Based on the 40' movie od8k0ay5q (https://youtu.be/MKm8zSjDuuU) obtained during orbit 06 and using the VIPAL magnetic field model. Jupiter is at the center, the Sun is towards the bottom (the frame is fixed relative to the Sun) and the 4 circles represent the orbits of the moons Io, Europa, Ganymede and Callisto (outward). These massive plasma injections are evolving as they rotate with Jupiter.
