JUICE Mission

The LPAP (Laboratory for Planetary and Atmospheric Physics) is involved in the preparation of the scientific aspects of the JUICE mission and later in the exploitation of the data sent by the probe. The laboratory has co-investigators of the UVS (UltraViolet Spectrograph) and MAJIS (Moon And Jupiter Imaging Spectrometer) instruments. These two instruments will probe Jupiter's atmosphere, the tenuous atmospheres of Jupiter's moons, their surfaces and the electromagnetic interactions between these moons and Jupiter.  
These interactions can be direct, giving rise to specific auroral emissions, both on Jupiter and on the moons; or indirect, as in the case of the moon Io, whose active volcanism is the main source of plasma in Jupiter's magnetosphere and which is the source of the extremely intense auroral emissions at Jupiter's poles. The study and interpretation of these auroral emissions has been a speciality of the LPAP for 30 years.
